Viral pandemics occur periodically and impact the population to differing degrees. This current pandemic is caused by a coronavirus, somewhat unexpected as most pandemic planning was based on the emergence of a new strain of influenza. What are the main differences between influenza and coronaviruses? What parallels actually can be drawn between the two viruses?
