Impact Games With Girlguiding Cymru
Cardiff Science Festival is excited to say that we partnered with the BAFTA award winning company Impact Gamers to teach girlguiding groups in South Wales how to code their own computer games!
The project, which was funded by UK Research and Innovation in partnership with UK Science Festival Network, brought researchers, computer scientists, game developers and girlguides together to make some amazing STEM-themed videos games. Local STEM researchers discussed their work with the girlguides, who will then go on to make computer games based on that research. Impact Gamers and computer science students from Cardiff University supported the girlguides to make the games.
Imagine being able to play a computer game about delivering medicine through the body, or a game about how engineers detect structural weaknesses in bridges. Well, all the games that the girlguides made are available to play online. You can play any of the games by clicking on them below.
Only 13% of computer science students at UK universities are female, so we are determined to offer young women in South Wales the experience and motivation to be a part of the next generation of coders.
Did you know? Ada Lovelace is considered the world’s first computer programmer. Her incredible understanding of mathematics and computers means that you can read this blog post on your computer or mobile phone!
